Black Christmas (Directed by Bob Clark) 1974

This vicious festive slasher film remains one of my favourite stalk n' slash films. Starring Margot Kidder, this cult flick revolves around a group of female students who are staying at a sorority house - but as the midnight hour draws in and the frost begins to lace the windows, a series of strange phone-calls plague the household and one by one the pretty ladies are bumped off in gruesome fashion. 'Black Christmas' has all the hallmarks of a classic slasher film mainly due to its suspenseful atmosphere, strong acting cast and its play on the eerie 'Babysitter & The Man Upstairs' urban legend. Of course, the creepiest aspect about the whole movie is the fact that the demented killer is in fact always close to home, literally, stashing his prey in the dusty attic alongside his own personal issues.
Whilst not reliant on lashings of violence, 'Black Christmas' still offers a series of gruesome episodes before its peculiar climax, and this is certainly one film you should be plucking out of the pile when the festive season draws near. 'Black Christmas' spawned a remake in 2006 but who cares, you just can't beat the originals and this is one of those not quite up to scratch chillers that still has a bloody charm about it.
